What it means to mentor/be mentored…

Hi Again!

First off, I would like to show you a new version of our RobsNetworkers Support Page. Thank to Steve Vicory for the concept, this page is a special Blog Version:

RobsNetworkers Blog Page

This gives our Blog Readers a new view and access to RobsNetworkers. We also changed the layout of the original RobsNetworkers Page. You can see it here. Comments Appreciated!!!

So, what's with the title of this blog. Well, due to the nature of the support we offer, people can be confused about some of the "protocol" and definitions. Two definitions that are important to know are:

Mentor: A mentor is someone who helps and support. They sometimes are also someone who may, at times, tell you things you may not want to hear. They may challenge you a bit. Politely and Professionally of course. Its not an easy job being a mentor. You have to be patient, listen well, and be positive and encouraging. Sometimes, you have to deal with challenging and confrontational situations. You may even have to make some hard choices that are not popular with everyone. This is the evolution of a mentor budding into a leader/room moderator/conference host. If you are interested in leadership development, we are the place for you!

Mentoring Receipient: It is important to understand, when you are new, that you need to first follow those who are successful. In order to become a leader, you must be a follower of sorts first. Those who know it all become termed as "Unwilling". If you are Unwilling to be mentored, you have no business being in a mentoring group. Coaching and Mentoring are used to keep people focused and on task. On the internet especially, there are soooooo many distractions out there. Being able to be open to constructive feedback is also a critical attribute. Again, as we said in the mentor section, our best teachers and coaches out there are the ones, at the time, that made us perhaps mad and told us what we didn't want to hear. Many times, we come to our mentor seeking validation and are angered at getting told perhaps that it may not be in our best interest. Again, if defensiveness and a know it all attitude are where you are coming from, you are probably best to continue struggling on your own. Unfortunately in life and in business, not everyone makes it. Don't let your own ego and drama get in the way of your success…..its hard enough some days as it is.

Join us Sunday Night at 9:30 PM est in the RobsNetworkers conference room for more discussion about mentors and being mentored. We'll discuss the difference between our Facebook Fan Page, our Conference Room, and Skype Mentoring Group. Yes, it does provide support, but take notice on the word mentoring and read the definitions above. All our our support options including access to our Conference Room are found at the RobsNetworkers Page. There is also a special Facebook Event Page that you can use to invite your friends. If we get 75 in the Room, someone gets a Lifetime TrafficLeads2Income Upgrade. That's a 400 dollar value folks! Here is the event page:

Marcy from CookieJarHits will also be our special guest, and I hear she has a great package in store for TL2I Members. CJH is the newest entry in the TL2I DLB.

Have a great night and see you in the Room!

Great article Rob! I read earlier this week that before you can be a leader, you need to first be a good follower! I have a reminder to go into my TL2I in the morning and use the mail to downline feature that you added recently and invite those free sign ups to engage.

You know to be a good leader we must also know how to be good followers. Whether you're the Mentor or the Mentee you must have respect for  the other person. Learning requires good communication and listening is a big part. Asking thoughtful questions and giving thoughtful answers.

I think we can all learn from one another – we need mentors to show us the path to somewhere we've never been before. So, choose a mentor who knows the way — as does Rob and other leaders of TL2I.

    Have a great day.

Mentoring and Being Mentored are so misunderstood, I'm so glad to see you post this important topic Rob!  You are definitely a great mentor to your members!  Great article, can't wait for the call Sunday night!

With mentoring there is a responsibility for the mentor, and the person being mentored for sure. Yes as a mentor you need to be very patient, and as someone being mentored you have to be willing to listen, and take good notes. Remember one thing you might be mentoring someone in the future, it is a way that you can pay it forward.  The very first person that should be mentoring is a sponsor, your sponsor should be someone that is responsible to help you, but if your sponsor doesn't do that then seek out someone in the mentoring/support group that can help.
